Middlesbrough FC send Fin Cartwright on loan to League Two outfit Grimsby Town

Middlesbrough have announced an EFL loan challenge for a promising young midfielder

Middlesbrough have sent young midfielder Fin Cartwright out on loan to Grimsby Town.

The 19-year-old is well thought of at the Riverside and has been capped by England at youth level, but senior opportunities have proven limited in North Yorkshire.

He has made just two appearances at first-team level and has now been given a chance to pick up vital EFL experience in League Two.

The teenage prospect has been sent to Grimsby, who have won one and drawn three across their opening four league games this term.

After putting pen to paper, Cartwright said: “I’m really happy to get the deal done and I’m looking forward to getting started.

“I’ve been at Middlesbrough for a long time and I’ve worked hard to get to the point where I am now, but I know the next step for me is playing regular senior football and getting that experience.

“When I spoke to the manager and the people at the club, I felt that Grimsby was a really good place for me to do that. The club has got good ambitions and I’m excited to be part of the squad.

“I want to play as many games as I can, learn as much as possible and help the team have a successful season. I’m ready to get stuck in and hopefully I can make a big contribution.”

Grimsby head coach David Artell added: “Fin is a really exciting young player and we’re delighted to bring him in. He’s been at Middlesbrough for a long time and has come through a very good academy, so he’s had a strong footballing education. He’s also already had a taste of first-team football, despite being only 19.

“He’s a midfielder who is comfortable on the ball, has good technical ability and can play with intensity. What we want to give him now is regular senior football, and we believe this is a really good environment for him to continue his development.

“He’s got a lot of potential and we’re looking forward to working with him and helping him take that next step in his career.”
