Portsmouth 0 Hull City 4 - Tigers hammer Pompey to stay top of League One pile


Pompey defender Jack Whatmough had an afternoon he will want to forget in a hurry after scoring two own goals, with the impressive George Honeyman and Josh Magennis completing the rout for Grant McCann’s team.
Lincoln City remain level on points with the Tigers following their 2-1 win at Northampton Town, while the hosts slip are now four pioints adrift of the top two, although they do have a point in hand on leaders Hull.

Hide AdThe breakthrough came in the 23rd minute when Pompey goalkeeper Craig MacGillivray saved well from Keane Lewis-Potter’s header only to see the ball ricocheted off centre-back Whatmough and into the net.


The visitors doubled their lead in the 61st minute when energetic midfielder Honeyman poked home following a goalmouth scramble, Mallik Wilks’s shot having fallen kindlyfor him.
Two minutes later was when Whatmough probably wanted the ground to open up and swallow him as the unfortunate defender turned Greg Docherty’s shot past the helpless MacGillivray.
As the game was closing out into injury time, Magennis then added to the hosts’ misery even further when his low strike from the edge of the are flew into the net
