Referee ‘got it wrong’ says Wenger after late defeat

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger was far from impressed with a number of referee Lee Probert’s decisions after his side’s 2-1 defeat at Fulham last night.

Laurent Koscielny gave the Gunners a first-half lead but the dismissal of Johan Djourou for two yellow cards cost the Gunners, who allowed Steve Sidwell and Bobby Zamora to score in the last five minutes to lose the points.

Wenger said afterwards: “The first yellow (for Djourou), I felt the referee got all wrong. And a penalty was not given to Gervinho – I do not know why it was not given.”

The Frenchman continued: “It was a difficult game and after we went down to 10 men we wanted to keep the score maybe too much and in the end when we were down to 10 there were tired legs.”

Steve Kean praised the Blackburn fans for getting behind their team at Ewood Park and felt they should have been rewarded with at least a point against Stoke.

After weeks of hostility from a growing section of the Rovers’ support, the Scot was given a break following Saturday’s superb win against Manchester United.

The hosts began well but in the first half Peter Crouch netted his 100th and 101st goals in league football to put Stoke two up and David Goodwillie’s first Premier League goal turned out to be just a consolation in a 2-1 loss.

Kean said: “I thought the fans were excellent. It’s a young team that we’ve got, and if they can get that feel-good factor and confidence to get on the ball (then results can improve).”

Swansea deservedly claimed their first away win as Aston Villa’s troubles at home continued.

The Welsh side went ahead in the fourth minute through Nathan Dyer before Wayne Routledge made it 2-0 shortly after half-time, the goals enough to condemn their opponents to a fourth straight defeat at Villa Park.

QPR captain Joey Barton scored and was then sent off as Norwich came from behind to win 2-1 at Loftus Road.

Barton rifled the home side ahead on 11 minutes, only to then see red after an apparent headbutt on Bradley Johnson.

Anthony Pilkington drew Norwich level just before half-time with a fine 20-yard effort, before substitute Steve Morison completed the turnaround with eight minutes left.

Frank Lampard scored a late winner for Chelsea in a 2-1 triumph at Wolves.

Ramires had given the Blues a 54th-minute lead but Stephen Ward looked to have salvaged a point for the home side – until Lampard settled the issue.
