The former Manchester United man was watched by Phil Parkinson in a recent Millers’ reserve game.

Thorpe joins ahead of an Easter where the Bantams will be depleted by international call-ups for loan trio Reece Burke, Lee Evans and Josh Cullen.

The three youngsters will miss Saturday’s home game against Millwall and the trip to Crewe Alexandra two days later. Under normal circumstances, City could have applied for a postponement when missing three players but Burke and Cullen are at Valley Parade on youth loans - which don’t count under Football League rules.

Thorpe has made seven appearances for Rotherham this season, scoring two goals.
