Rotherham United receive positive news regarding fitness of striker Conor Washington ahead of Luton Town game

ROTHERHAM UNITED have received some positive news regarding Conor Washington, who could feature in Saturday's final Championship game before the World Cup break at Luton Town.

The experienced striker missed the midweek victory at former club Sheffield United with a knee injury ahead of undergoing a scan.

Manager Matt Taylor said: "We think Conor Washington might have a chance. There were some positive scan results.

"The surgeon has still not decided if he wants to operate within that four-week period (World Cup break) on the knee injury, but there's a chance he might feature - certainly from the bench this weekend.

"That would be a boost because we did expect him not to be available going into the weekend. It was a real worry, but in terms of the scan result, the state of the knee had not changed from the previous scan.

"It is just whether or not the surgeon or Conor himself see this as an opportunity just to improve the outcome of the knee long term and take away any chance of any future damage by possibly going under the knife in the next few weeks.

"That remains to be seen. He's done a little bit of training (on Thursday), we will see how he is tomorrow (Friday). It will all be based on his symptoms; if there's less pain in his knee and more movement and if he feels freer in terms of his movement. We will assess him."

Meanwhile, Taylor says that defender Grant Hall (hamstring) will return to training during the break and has also revealed that Georgie Kelly, who has suffered a more serious hamstring tear, has a chance of returning in time for the Bristol City game on December 10.

On Hall, he said: "He has a small tear in there. We expect him to be with us in Cyprus but not training. We expect him to be back with two weeks left before the Bristol City game.

"It probably be a 10 to two-week week for Grant and with that time in between, we will certainly not rush him."

"We will assess where he is at, but we have had worse scans than that and expect him to be out for a maximum of two weeks. And on Kelly, he continued: "That is a more serious tear. But his symptoms are improving on a daily basis and he looks a quick healer. If you are going to tear your hamstring, do it before a four-week break."It will be a race against time for him to be fit for Bristol City. He's got a chance, that's a real positive. We hope to have him close in some capacity for the next run of fixtures.

Jamie McCart, Shane Ferguson and Tolaji Bola are also currently sidelined for the Millers.

Captain Richard Wood, who did not feature in the win at Bramall Lane and was an unused substitute, will be back in the fray for the weekend trip to Bedfordshire to face the Hatters.
