Sheffield United defender Jili Buyabu’s error in the colours of Rotherham United has been addressed by Alex Bruce

Rotherham United head coach Alex Bruce has outlined the importance of on-loan Sheffield United defender Jili Buyabu learning from his recent blunder.

The 23-year-old was guility of defending clumsily last weekend, giving away a penalty to allow Salford City to peg Rotherham back and claim a 3-3 draw.

Bruce was frank in his assessment of the error, but has saluted the way in which the left-back has applied himself this week.

Bruce said: “He needed to [put his hands up]. He has in fairness to him. He recognises that he’s made a mistake. Young players will make mistakes.

“It’s about learning from it and not letting it happen again - paying attention to detail when you’re going through them on a Thursday and Friday, like we do, knowing where you are.

“And if you’re not starting a game, you’re a sub, you know where you’re coming on and what your responsibilities and your roles are.

“It’s always a learning curve - don’t find yourself out of position in the first place, which he was, to allow the lad to get goal side of him. Disappointing from that respect but he’ll learn from it.

“He’s trained well - as they all have. I have to say, they’ve trained really well this week.”

Jili Buyabu’s career path

Buyabu joined Sheffield United from non-league outfit Hornchurch in 2021 and has since made two senior appearances for the Blades.

Prior to being loaned to Rotherham, he made temporary switches to Motherwell, Rochdale and Forest Green Rovers.
