Liam Kitching medical 'completed' ahead of Sheffield United loan as Hull City's Kieran Dowell 'turned down'

The latest on the incomings front at Sheffield United on deadline day

Coventry City defender Liam Kitching has reportedly completed a medical with a view to joining Sheffield United on loan.

The 26-year-old was a key figure in Coventry’s Championship title-winning campaign but has seen competition intensified since their promotion to the Premier League.

He was recently linked with the Blades and the South Yorkshire appear to have made a major transfer window breakthrough on deadline day.

Liam Kitching nears Sheffield United move

According to Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke, the centre-back is on the verge of being unveiled as a Sheffield United player.

Posting on X, he said: “Understand Sheffield United have sealed the loan signing of Coventry defender Liam Kitching after he completed his medical earlier today.”

The move would mark a return to Yorkshire for Kitching, who is a product of Leeds United’s academy and counts Barnsley and Harrogate Town among his former clubs.

He was prised from Barnsley by Coventry in 2023 after the former missed out on promotion via the League One play-off final.

Kitching has made a total of 107 appearances for Coventry across all competitions, scoring four goals.

Kieran Dowell stance outlined

Sheffield United look to have secured Kitching but a return to Bramall Lane for Kieran Dowell does not appear to be on the cards.

The 28-year-old had a loan spell at Sheffield United in 2019 and was part of the side that clinched promotion to the Premier League.

He is surplus to requirements at Hull City and The Star have claimed Sheffield United have turned down the chance to be reunited with the attack-minded midfielder.

Given he is unlikely to make Hull’s 25-man Premier League squad, Hull and his representatives will most likely be working hard to line up a fresh challenge.

Sheffield United may be keen to add some creativity in the window’s final hours though, as Callum O’Hare is seemingly Wrexham-bound.
