'Unacceptable' - Sydie Peck makes frank admission regarding Sheffield United's cup exit at Fleetwood Town

Sheffield United’s abject Carabao Cup performance against Fleetwood Town has been addressed by Sydie Peck

Sydie Peck has conceded Sheffield United’s performance against Fleetwood Town earlier this week was “unacceptable”.

The Blades visited fourth-tier Fleetwood in the third round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday (September 16), delivering a lacklustre display.

An own goal from Rhys Norrington-Davies in the second half handed a 1-0 victory to the hosts, who were rewarded with a dream home tie against Premier League champions Arsenal.

Sydie Peck addresses Sheffield United embarrassment

Travelling supporters made their feelings known at full-time and Peck, who featured as a second-half substitute, has faced the music on social media.

Posting on Instagram, the 22-year-old midfielder said: “Unacceptable last night, down to us as a team to put things right. We can only apologise to the travelling fans and thank you for your continued support.”

Sheffield United will have a chance to bounce back tomorrow (September 19), when they are due to face Stoke City on the road.

Peck is likely to be restored to the starting XI after a number of Chris Wilder’s fringe players failed to seize their opportunity in the Carabao Cup.

Chris Wilder’s message to underperformers

Wilder said: “These are the ones that really sort the men out from the boys. And I think there were a lot of boy performances out there after half-time. So maybe players know better and want to go their own way.

“And ultimately, individually, that will only end in one way. The players have had enough warning and possibly people will be saying ‘well, they're not listening to you’. Well, if they're not listening to me, then there's only one winner on that.

“It has given me so much clarity - in who I can trust, and who’s going to take us forward, and who’s got a lot to do to get themselves back on side and on track with me.”
