And the Sheffield United captain is confident the on-loan goalkeeper will be back at Bramall Lane for a third season if parent club Manchester United do not recall him.

Henderson kept out substitutes Mario Vrancic and Josip Drmic to secure his side's 1-0 win over Norwich City.

A regular in the under-age sides, Henderson is uncapped at senior level, but that could change if March's friendlies at home to Italy and Denmark go ahead as planned.

“Deano saved one down to the left, got up quick and I don't know how he saved the second one with his right hand,” said Sharp, who headed the game's only goal. “He loves keeping the ball out of the net and I'm certain he'll be England's No 1 soon, he has to be with his performances and he wants to be as well.”

Despite laughing off the choice of Henderson as man of the match, manager Chris Wilder joined the praise.

“His performances for us over the last season-and-a-half have been fantastic,” he said. “He’s made a few mistakes along the way but he’s matured and his concentration levels are fabulous.

“He has a huge desire to take his game to the very top. But you have to realise still that he is a young goalkeeper with an enormous amount of learning and getting better in front of him.

“I don’t know (if he is ready to play for England), that’s for others to decide but he is doing the absolute maximum he can to be the best he possibly can.”

When asked if he had been pestering Henderson to come back for a third season-long loan next term, Sharp said there was no need despite Ole Gunnar Solskjaer going on record as saying he wanted the youngster back at Old Trafford.

“He wants to come back,” he said. “He wants to play for Man United, obviously, but if he can't do that he wants to play for Sheffield United. We're happy with that situation and I'm sure it'll get sorted at the end of the season.”
