Manager Chris Wilder promised an "explosion" of signing this week, and he has delivered with Wales international Ampadu following the double signing of Derby County's Max Lowe and Jayden Bogle.

Amapadu, who can play as a central defender or central midfielder made his League Cup debut as a 15-year-old Exeter City player before moving to Stamford Bridge in 2017. He was 16 when he won the first of 13 caps to date for Wales, and is now only 20.

it is no surprise, then, that Wilder faced considerable competition to sign him.

“Ethan is an outstanding young player for Chelsea, and we’ve worked really hard to get his signature for the season," he said.

“We need to thank (Blues manager) Frank Lampard and the people at Chelsea for helping making this happen. We’ve got a good relationship with them and they know we’re going to take good care of him.

“It’s an important season for Ethan and playing in the Premier League for us is a good move for everyone. He brings a lot of qualities to the group and he’s someone we’ve tracked for two or three seasons.”

Ampadu has only played ten minutes of Premier League football for Chelsea, as a substitute at Huddersfield Town in 2017, though he has made 12 appearances in all for them.

He is, though, highly-rated in west London, and signed a five-year contract in 2018 before spending last season on loan at RB Leipzig to further his development.

Wilder will now aim to complete the signing of West Bromwich Albion striker Oliver Burke.
