Jeff Hendrick admits 'surprise' over Burnley forward Jamie Vardy after Sheffield Wednesday blow
Jeff Hendrick has discussed Jamie Vardy’s decision to join Burnley over Sheffield Wednesday
Former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Jeff Hendrick has admitted he was surprised to see the Owls miss out on Jamie Vardy.
Vardy supported Wednesday in his youth and represented the blue side of the Steel City at academy level before being cut loose.
He went on to become a Leicester City legend and an England international, but was on the free agent market over the summer after leaving Cremonese.
Interest from Wednesday was made public, yet the 39-year-old marksman linked up with Championship strugglers Burnley earlier this month.

Jeff Hendrick’s Jamie Vardy surprise
Hendrick, who spent the 20234/24 season on loan at Hillsborough, felt Vardy was going to head back to South Yorkshire.
He told Andy’s Bet Club: “It's a tough one because I don't know Jamie too well, but probably the romantic side would have been him going to Sheffield Wednesday.
“He's been outspoken about his support for Wednesday, so I thought he was going to go there.
“But maybe where he's living Burnley is a better fit, or just the club being in a higher league. For me, it did surprise me a little bit when I saw the two clubs looking at him, and how potentially it would have been Sheffield Wednesday just for that romantic side.”

Jamie Vardy’s Burnley move
Vardy made his Burnley debut last week, entering the fray as a substitute in a 3-1 defeat to Swansea City.
After putting pen to paper at Turf Moor, the frontman said: “I’m really happy to now be here at Burnley FC. This club has a proper footballing history and passionate fans who deserve a team that represents them and their town.
“I can’t wait to get going on the pitch and help the team move in the right direction.”
