Sheffield Wednesday return for Leicester City legend Jamie Vardy 'discussed' by Owls

Sheffield Wednesday said to have discussed stunning return to Yorkshire for Jamie Vardy

Sheffield Wednesday have reportedly discussed the possibility of a sensational homecoming for Jamie Vardy.

The 39-year-old is a lifelong Wednesday fan who was cut loose by the club’s academy as a 16-year-old. He went on to enjoy a stunning rise through the pyramid to become one of the Premier League’s most lethal marksmen.

He scored 200 goals in 500 appearances for Leicester City between 2012 and 2025, lifting the Premier League and FA Cup trophies.

The veteran now plies his trade out in Italy with Cremonese and registered seven goals in Serie A this season.

Sheffield Wednesday ‘discuss’ Jamie Vardy homecoming

According to The Wednesday Word, the possibility of an emotional homecoming move to Hillsborough for Vardy has been discussed.

There is no indication a move is set to materialise, but fans may be enthused by the mere mention of Vardy’s name by higher-ups.

While Vardy could be forgiven for wanting to end his career at a level higher than League One, the emotional appeal of his boyhood club could prove strong.

He turns 40 next year but his respectable goal haul in Serie A this season serves as evidence that he still has something to offer.

Jamie Vardy’s Yorkshire roots

Vardy may have found fame after leaving Yorkshire, but it was in the county of his birth the forward started his journey to the top. He was a prolific scorer for Stocksbridge Park Steels and FC Halifax Town before moving on to Fleetwood Town and then Leicester.

Last year, as his Leicester contract approached expiry, he was linked with a shock return to Yorkshire with Leeds United. He instead sought pastures new overseas, making it clear he did not want to hang up his boots.

In his farewell message to the Foxes, he said: "This isn't retirement. I want to keep on playing and doing what I enjoy most - scoring goals. I may be 38 but I still have the desire and ambition to achieve so much more."
