Yeovil 2 Sheffield Wednesday 3: Megson’s men rally after controversial strike from Agard

Sheffield Wednesday, backed by over 1,200 fans, came from behind to win on the road.

Goals by David McGoldrick, Julian Bennett and Gary Madine did the trick as Kieran Agard scored twice for Yeovil.

Wednesday chief Gary Megson was delighted with his side’s performance at Huish Park.

Wednesday took the lead through new loan recruit McGoldrick from Nottingham Forest before Agard equalised in controversial circumstances.

Play had stopped for an injury to Yeovil’s Paul Huntington. The game resumed with a long ball back to Richard O’Donnell but Agard did not seem to be aware that it was being returned to the Owls goalkeeper and chased after it. O’Donnell came out of his goal and collided with captain Rob Jones. The ball ran free and Agard slid the ball home on 26 minutes.

It resulted in a long delay as the Wednesday players and coaching staff protested.

Jones was unable to continue and was replaced by Bennett with Johnson moving across to centre-half.

Agard added a second before the interval but Megson praised the resolve of his side, saying: “I’m more than pleased; I’m delighted with the manner that we won. We had an awful performance on Tuesday and our backs were against the wall at half-time today, but we came through it.”

On new signing McGoldrick, Megson said: “He’s got a decent pedigree. He’s a good player and it was a great header for the goal. He and Gary Madine linked up well today.”

Clinton Morrison was not involved, adding further speculation over his future but Megson said: “There has been no animosity, we had a conversation and there is no problem between myself and Clinton.”
