ROTHERHAM United have completed the short-term signing of former Sheffield Wednesday defender Dominic Iorfa.

The 30-year-old, based in the Rotherham area, was released by the Owls in May after six-and-a-half seasons with the club.

He had been training with the Millers, who have beaten off some interest from the higher divisions to sign the Southend-born player, who has linked up with the League Two club until January.

Iorfa will provide a much-needed senior option in the heart of the Millers’ rearguard and is the club’s 16th addition since the end of June.

He will boost a defence who have let in 10 goals in six league matches so far in 26-27. It is the joint fourth-worst record in the division and only Newport County, Accrington Stanley and Crawley Town have shipped more goals in the fourth tier thus far.

The former England under-21 international joined Wednesday from Wolverhampton Wanderers in January 2019 and went on to make 222 appearances for the Hillsborough outfit, scoring seven goals.

He featured 34 times last term for the Owls.
