DONCASTER ROVERS have signed vastly-experienced Scunthorpe United attacker Gary McSheffrey on loan for the rest of the season - and he could be joined by two other arrivals before the crunch Good Friday game at Colchester United.

Rovers boss Darren Ferguson, in a bid to arrest the club’s disastrous 12-match League One winless streak which has seen them plummet in the relegation positions, has brought in McSheffrey, 33 and another signing is set to be finalised shortly.

A paperwork hitch is currently preventing the second capture, believed to be currently on loan at a side ahead of an impending return to his parent club, but that will be resolved imminently.

Ferguson also revealed that the club are also in the hunt for a third loan signing ahead of tomorrow’s emergency loan deadline at 5pm.

McSheffrey’s arrival follows on from the capture of experienced midfielder Tommy Rowe from Wolves, with young loanees Conor Grant and Lynden Gooch returning to their parent sides last weekend after stints with Doncaster.

On McSheffrey, who has scored five goals in 28 appearances for Scunthorpe this term, Ferguson said: “He’s got a lot of experience and knows the league very, very well.

“He’s gone really good quality in the last third of the pitch. It’s been on the radar for a little bit, but was proving difficult.

“They (Scunthorpe) wouldn’t let him go out on loan, but now they have decided to.”

“We are pretty hopeful one more will come in tomorrow. We are confident that will be done and on top of that, another one might be done.”
