York City fitness update plus Scott Lindsey on winless away start

Josh Stones, Hiram Boateng and Morgan Williams are back in York City training, but none will be part of Saturday's League Two game at Newport County.

The Minstermen's injury list is easing, but not in time to give Scott Lindsey more options at Rodney Parade.

Stones (glute) and Boateng (muscle tear) are yet to kick a ball this season, whilst Williams picked up an ankle injury at Crewe Alexandra in early September.

On defender Williams, Lindsey said: "He joined in parts of training today (Thursday), but it's still probably too soon for him to be involved in the squad.

"But it's pleasing to see him back out there joining in with parts of the training.

"Hiram's trained fully this week, he probably needs another week before we consider him, just to make sure that he's really robust and ready to go, but he's been training well."

On Stones: "He's on track, so again, he joined in parts of it, he's going to probably need a little bit longer, and again, really pleased to see him out there training with the lads."

The return of Stones, who scored 17 goals in last season's Conference, along with 34 for Oliie Pearce, will give the coach some selection calls to make, but the coach is looking forward to them.

"I don't understand why people call it a headache, how can it be a headache?" said Lindsey. " It's really good problems to have, the more players we've got who are good, the better for me, it's never a headache to have good players."

York have no fresh injuries as they go in search of their first away win of the season, but Lindsey hinted there could still be a change.

"I think we always have to look like us," said Lindsey, of what his team need to do better on their travels. "Maybe there might be a personnel change, maybe that gives us something different, we'll have to wait and see, but we're not making it (the away form) a thing. We don't think it's a thing.

"I think the press are making it more a thing than it needs to be.

"I think if you look up and down the divisions over the weeks, there's not many teams that do win away from home. It's a tough division, so we want to get that obviously, but it's not a thing."
