'I have always admired the club' - York City land ex-West Brom forward Jovan Malcolm on loan from Stevenage
York City have confirmed the loan signing of a forward from League One
York City have completed the loan signing of forward Jovan Malcolm from League One outfit Stevenage.
The 23-year-old, a product of West Bromwich Albion’s academy, has been on the books of Stevenage since last summer.
He was lured to the club after an impressive spell with non-league outfit Gateshead, for whom he scored 12 goals across 41 appearances.
Malcolm has managed just 14 appearances and one goal for Stevenage and ended last season on loan in League Two with Barrow.
York City confirm loan signing
The frontman has now returned to the fourth tier, linking up with newly-promoted York on a deal running until January. Malcolm has become the 11th signing of a busy summer for the Minstermen.
He said: “I'm delighted to be here. I have always admired the club and what they have done over the last few years, so being able to get this over the line has been brilliant for me.
“To be honest, when I came here [with Gateshead], I was surprised by the fanbase, the set-up, and the stadium, and it really left a good impression on me.”
A new era at York City
Malcolm is the second signing of the Scott Lindsey era, which started when he replaced Stuart Maynard at the helm earlier this month.
The decision to change manager after promotion from the National League sparked plenty of controversy, but the Minstermen have since beaten Bristol Rovers and picked up a point away at Rotherham United.
Malcolm could make his York debut on Saturday (August 29), when Lindsey’s men will host Exeter City at the LNER Community Stadium.
They will then visit Crewe Alexandra a week later before returning to their home ground for a meeting with Swindon Town.
