Jacob Fearnley hails Ilkley Open organisers despite run ending in final
Jacob Fearnley narrowly missed his chance to become Lexus Ilkley Open champion but the Brits dominated the doubles draw.
David Stevenson and Marcus Willis took home the men’s doubles title while Freya Christie and Eden Silva were victorious on the women’s side.
It was a different story for Fearnley, who lost a closely-fought contest 6-3 7-6 (1) against China’s Yunchaokete Bu – the previous week’s Lexus Birmingham Open winner.
Fearnley, pictured, said: “It was an amazing week. It was my first time playing the singles here and I really got to feel all the love from the fans.

“The tournament is an amazing one and I’ll definitely look forward to coming back next year and for many years to come.
“Congrats to Bu – I’ve played him a few times and know how difficult he is. He had my number.
“He served amazingly and played well in the big moments. On a grass court, that turned out to be the deciding factor.
“Congrats to him and his team, they’re doing amazing things – back-to-back titles and I’m sure he’ll go on to do well at Wimbledon.

“Thanks to the tournament organisers – I know the weather was a challenge but you made the players feel great and managed to get through the tournament.”
The Lexus Ilkley Open is one of two combined WTA 125 and ATP Challenger 125 level events this summer.
After a rain-interrupted week, blue skies were a welcome change on finals day.
In the women’s singles final, American eighth seed Ashlyn Krueger beat Swiss Celine Naef 7-5 6-2 and also knocked out Brits Alicia Dudeney and Katie Swan on her way to victory.
But there was unrivalled British success in the doubles draws.
Stevenson and Willis beat Rithvik Choudary Bollipalli and Trey Hilderbrand 7-6(5) 6-3 to take home the men’s doubles title, while an all-British women’s doubles final saw Christie and Silva beat fourth seeds Madeleine Brooks and Amelia Rajecki 1-6 6-4 10-7.
