Liam Morris backed to bring the 'intensity' and an 'edge' to Sheffield Steeldogs

SHEFFIELD STEELDOGS’ GM Jamie McIlroy believes Liam Morris will ‘bring the intensity’ after making the switch from Basingstoke Bison.

The versatile 31-year-old, who can play forward or defence, has spent six of the last eight seasons with the Bison, the other two years spent with Berkshire Bees when the Hampshire club were not in operation.

His gritty style has earned him a reputation for being a fierce competitor in NIHL National, something the Steeldogs are keen to utilise.

“When we spoke about the opportunity to come to Sheffield, one thing became clear very quickly,” said Steeldogs’ McIlroy after Morris’ move to South Yorkshire was confirmed on Fridday morning. “His main motivation was to sign for a club where he believes he can compete for trophies.

“That tells you everything you need to know about his mindset. Liam is a fierce competitor who wants to win, and he’ll always put the team before himself.

“He’s the sort of player who will do whatever is needed to help the group succeed, whether that’s blocking a shot, standing up for a team-mate or playing whatever role the coaches ask of him.

“He’s also a player who competes with an edge. He gets under the opposition’s skin, brings plenty of energy and emotion to every game, and he’ll definitely give our supporters something to cheer about.”
