Jack Ashworth set for Castleford Tigers return as injuries bite
Jack Ashworth is set for a chance to prove his value to Castleford Tigers after a spate of head injuries left Ryan Carr with a depleted pack for Saturday's trip to Leigh Leopards.
George Hirst, Brock Greacen and Tyler Dupree all sustained concussions in Castleford's Magic Weekend defeat to Wakefield Trinity, while Darnell McIntosh and Liam Hood are major doubts.
Hirst and Greacen are facing prolonged spells on the sidelines after failing a HIA for the second time in a month, potentially creating an opportunity for Ashworth to enjoy an extended run in the team.
The former Huddersfield Giants and Hull FC prop has not featured for Castleford since April and recently spent time on loan in the Championship with Doncaster.
"There are some forwards like Sam Hall and Jack Ashworth who have been doing a good job in the reserves," said Carr. "It'll open the door for them and give them a chance to play.
"That's the reason Jack has been playing at Doncaster. He's been doing a good job and will be in contention to come in and do a job for us this weekend.
"He went and played really hard at Doncaster and competed really hard. He'll be ready to go for us."
Carr is also assessing the fitness of McIntosh and Hood.

Outside back McIntosh is nursing a groin issue, while veteran hooker Hood reported discomfort on his return from a long-term neck injury in Liverpool.
"There are injuries in rugby league you can push through and others that I don’t go past that line with necks and heads," said Carr. "We've got to be doing the best thing by the player."
