Joe Burgess set for Hull KR exit as Paul Lakin explains decision
Hull KR have granted Joe Burgess a release from the final year of his contract to take up an opportunity at another Super League club.
The 31-year-old winger signed a new deal at the start of this year but is now preparing to end his three-season spell with the Robins.
Burgess has completed the set of trophies during his time at Craven Park, scoring a double in KR's maiden Grand Final success last October – the third part of a historic quadruple.
The England international has crossed 22 times in 25 appearances this year to take his try tally to 64 in 73 games for Rovers. He will bow out in the upcoming play-offs.
KR chief executive Paul Lakin said: "Joe has been a fantastic player for us and will leave at the end of the season having been a cornerstone of our success over the last three seasons.
"Whilst Joe had one more year left on his contract, we recently engaged in open and transparent discussions with him and his manager to seek future opportunities elsewhere for 2027 onwards due to our salary cap restrictions and our desire to add some more depth to the squad. As you would expect, there was no shortage of offers.
"With so much still to play for in 2026, Joe, along with other departing players and staff, will receive the recognition and tribute he rightly deserves, addressing the fans at the end of the season."
