Mikey Lewis hit with four-game ban for struggling champions Hull KR

Hull KR talisman Mikey Lewis has been banned for four games following separate incidents in last weekend’s 34-12 loss at Warrington Wolves.

The former Man of Steel avoided any on-field action over a headbutt aimed at rival Adam Holroyd in the first half, but was later sin-binned for an off-the-ball challenge on Ewan Irwin.

The RFL’s match review panel charged half-back Lewis with a grade E offence over the initial incident, resulting in 18 penalty points and a three-game suspension.

He was also stood down for one match and fined for grade C late contact on a passer, earning him five penalty points.

The dual-punishment means Lewis will miss Thursday’s derby at Hull FC plus games against Bradford Bulls, Castleford Tigers and Catalans Dragons.

He will be back in contention for the rearranged rematch with Warrington on Tuesday, August 18.

Huddersfield Giants’ Taane Milne is also facing an enforced rest after being accused of grade E unnecessary contact with an injured player in last Friday’s 24-10 home loss to Wigan Warriors.

He was handed a three-match suspension and a fine, meaning he will sit out Saturday’s visit to York Knights and meetings with Hull FC and Catalans.

Wigan youngster Kian McDermott was suspended for two matches over grade D head contact in the same game.

Players have until noon today (Tuesday) to challenge the panel’s findings and any appeals will be heard later the same afternoon.

Players who were charged but avoided a ban include Leeds Rhinos’ James McDonnell, Caleb Hamlin-Uele of Wakefield Trinity, Bradford Bulls’ Jack Ormondroyd and Tom Inman of York Knights.
