Wigan Warriors make shock Bevan French call as Challenge Cup final squads named

Wigan Warriors star Bevan French could be in line for a surprise Wembley appearance after being named in Matt Peet's 21-man squad.

The 2023 Super League Man of Steel has been sidelined since suffering a hamstring tear in early March.

French was originally due to sit out four months but has been included in Wigan's travelling party for Saturday's Challenge Cup final against Hull KR.

Whether French has a genuine chance of featuring or his inclusion is simply mind games remains to be seen.

Dean Hadley appears to be on track to play as he battles a hamstring injury, while fellow Rovers forward Jai Whitbread – whose partner is expecting a baby – has also been named in Willie Peters' squad.

Hull KR squad: Davies, Hiku, Gildart, Burgess, Lewis, May, Sue, Litten, Batchelor, Minchella, Amone, Hadley, Broadbent, Luckley, Whitbread, Martin, Brown, Lawton, Dezaria, Booth, Leyland.

Wigan squad: Field, Eckersley, Keighran, Wardle, French, Smith, Havard, O’Neill, Thompson, Nsemba, Farrell, Ellis, Walters, Mago, Partington, Farrimond, Eseh, Forber, McDermott, Kerr, Hodkinson.
