Eden Camp: 'Back to the 1940s' weekend brings wartime era to life in Yorkshire

Eden Camp Modern History Museum in Malton is set to host its 'Back to the 1940s' event, this weekend.

On Saturday and Sunday (Oct 12 and 13), Back to the 1940s will offer an immersive experience and insights into the wartime era through various performances, activities, and historical re-enactments.

Eden Camp near Malton is the only remaining prisoner of war camp in Britain, built in 1942, where the original huts have been preserved and turned into immersive and engaging displays.

One of the key activities will be the RAF Bomber Command Briefings, hosted by RAF Hawksmere.

Adding to the atmosphere, performances by Derek Herbert as Winston Churchill will be broadcast through the Eden Camp tannoy system, offering a portrayal of the wartime leader that has been well received in past events.

For those seeking refreshments, the Yorkshire Bus Bar will be open, alongside a bar in the heritage hall, which will provide views of the museum's collection of vintage vehicles.

On Saturday night, the venue will host a 1940s Tea Dance, featuring live music, dancing, and a nostalgic atmosphere.

The Tea Dance, scheduled from 6:00 pm to 10:30 pm on Saturday (Oct 12), will be headlined by The Bluebird Belles, a vocal harmony trio known for their 1940s-inspired style.

Their sets will include music reminiscent of The Andrews Sisters, adding a vintage flair to the evening. Support will come from Hep to the Jive, a five-piece band specialising in classic songs, contributing to the dance-focused night.
