Battle of Peasholm 2026: Yorkshire seaside lake in Scarborough to host summer reenactment of naval battles for 99th year

The Battle of Peasholm will return to a lake in Scarborough where there will be naval battle reenactments for its 99th year.

Every year since 1927, a war breaks out on Peasholm Park lake where 20ft replica boats recreate the tensions of a battle at sea.

Until 1929, all the boats were powered by man, then electricity was introduced and now only the larger boats need to be steered by council staff.

During the early years, the models were First World War battleships named Dreadnaughts, mystery ships called Q-ships, a passenger liner called Orantes and a U-boat.

The event is set on the Peasholm Park lake in beautiful garden surroundings and the duration of the battle lasts for 30 minutes. It takes place three times a week during the summer months.

Peasholm Park is a popular element of Scarborough’s North Bay tourist experience; it has an oriental theme with a pagoda, lake, and waterfalls.
