There was a time when wearing a hearing aid felt like something to hide. But hearing care has changed dramatically, and so has the experience of seeking help.

Bulky hearing aid shapes, whistling feedback - for many people the idea simply didn’t fit with modern life.

And seeking help for hearing loss could be daunting and nerve-wracking.

Now, stepping into an independent clinic such as Charlwood Hearing Care feels less like a medical appointment and more like a personalised consultation.

The family-run team at North Yorkshire-based Charlwood - headed by Neil Charlwood – puts people first, and dedicates time to help clients make the best decisions about the right hearing aids to suit them.

We’re here to help people hear better and find the right solution for the right person.

Modern hearing aids are discreet, elegant, and remarkably intelligent.

Forget bulky beige devices - today’s models are slim, lightweight, and often barely visible.

Some sit comfortably behind the ear in a range of contemporary colours, while others are custom-moulded to fit invisibly inside the ear canal.

But it’s not just about looks.

Many of today’s hearing aids feature Bluetooth and smartphone connectivity, so you can receive phone calls, video calls, listen to music or watch videos.

And whether you’re in a lively restaurant, out for a countryside walk, or relaxing at home, you’ll experience the life-changing confidence of hearing better.

All of that technical choice may feel daunting. Where to begin?

This is where the independent team at Charlwood Hearing Care comes into its element.

Says Neil: “The benefits of being independent means we can offer a much more personal service.

“We have a much broader range of products available than the national chains; and we have the benefits of being able to offer people the chance to try, and demo, hearing aids before they are committed to anything.

“We have a large range of demo hearing aids that we can set up for people to try. And with no obligation.”

Find the right hearing aid right for you

The first step if you’re worried about your hearing is to have a consultation with Charlwood Hearing Care - they will then offer the best solution.

The professional team will organise an initial consultation which will take about 30 minutes. Or you can book a full hearing test and assessment which will take around one hour.

Says Neil: “After studying the results of your hearing examination and discussing personal requirements and expectations, we will give you the best advice possible.

“Our independence allows us to be impartial in selecting the most suitable options for your requirements, unlike larger national chains that are tied in with particular manufacturers.

We will be honest and straightforward, and will never suggest devices beyond your requirements. We know that choosing to wear hearing instruments is a big step, so you will never be rushed into a decision by us.”

As with most products today, there is a huge choice of hearing instruments to suit many different budgets.

When a hearing aid is chosen, Charlwood Hearing Care will offer a minimum 60-day trial period so that you can try it out in real life.

This allows the team to then fine-tune the aids to your hearing and lifestyle.

Says Neil: “Just like having a suit made to measure, it is necessary to sometimes make final adjustments before the fit and function is perfect.”
