Bill and Ben are still top of houseplant names list

A survey by horticulture company Westland Horticulture for National Houseplant Week has found that one in three consumers now give their houseplant a name.

The research of more than 1,500 consumers revealed traditional British names such as Bill, Ben, and Charlie top the list of the most popular name choices and that 78 per cent of us now choose to brighten up our living areas with at least one indoor plant.

Other names regularly chosen for houseplants include Vera, Bertie and Bob.

Westland’s research for National Houseplant Week also found that over 12 per cent of consumers have no access to an outdoor garden or balcony.
