Sheffield Wednesday star Svante Ingelsson attracts 'interest' from Stoke City, West Brom and Preston North End

Sheffield Wednesday star Svante Ingelsson has reportedly attracted interest from a trio of Championship clubs.

In a bleak season at Hillsborough, Ingelsson has been a shining light who has given the long-suffering Owls fans something to cheer about.

A physically imposing midfield presence, the 27-year-old has given the South Yorkshire strugglers a foothold in many games that have threatened to get away from them.

He was the subject of interest from rivals in January, with Millwall, Derby County and Portsmouth among those said to have been keen.

With Wednesday set for a return to League One next season, it seems inevitable there will be vultures circling in the summer.

Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Svante Ingelsson attracts ‘interest’

According to The Star, Stoke City are the latest club to have signalled strong interest in the former Sweden youth international.

West Bromwich Albion and Preston North End are also said to have held interest in the midfielder, who is technically out of contract this summer.

However, the Owls are widely believed to have a one-year extension clause they plan to activate.

The report has also claimed Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder is an admirer of Ingelsson, but that a crossing of the Steel City rivalry divide is considered unlikely.

Henrik Pedersen on Svante Ingelsson

In the dying embers of the last transfer window, Wednesday boss Henrik Pedersen said it would be “awful” to lose a player of Ingelsson’s calibre.

He said: "It would be awful. He is a culture player - he sets the standard every day for what is okay and what is not okay. He's a top human.

“He's a top professional player and he is strong in the way we want to play. I really, really hope we don't need to sell him and that we can keep him.”
