Percy blames Corbyn for 'toxic environment' after woman's abuse

NORTHERN POWERHOUSE Minister Andrew Percy has accused Jeremy Corbyn of creating a 'toxic environment' in politics and his supporters of unleashing 'hate' after he was abused while out campaigning.

Mr Percy, who is defending the Brigg and Goole seat he has held since 2010, described how a woman called him “Israeli scum” as she praised Jeremy Corbyn.

Mr Percy wrote on his Facebook page: “Whether a Labour member or not it does show just what hate has been unleashed by the Corbynista set.”

He said he was used to receiving personal abuse “but the Corbyn stuff has really unleashed something very nasty and sinister”.

“I don’t post this for sympathy as I am more than big enough to look after myself and I’m pretty good at what my Grandma would call, fish-wifeing back.

“I called her a disgusting racist and thanked her for what the Cobynistas were doing to make the Conservative Party so electable.

“As her two middle fingers faded into the distance I couldn’t really hear what else she had to say,” he wrote.

Explaining his decision to comment about the incident, Mr Percy wrote that he “thought people do need to know what a toxic environment Corbyn has created.

“I don’t mean just for Tories but for moderate Labour too.”

Labour has been dogged by anti-Semitism allegations under Mr Corbyn.

The Labour leader last year described anti-Semitism as “evil” and promised Labour will “fight against prejudice and hatred of Jewish people with every breath in its body”.
