The winner of this year's Turner Prize 2017 is to be announced by DJ Goldie at an awards ceremony in Hull on December 5.

The Walsall-born DJ who rose to fame after the release of his debut album Timeless - which went on to become a landmark record of the Nineties - will announce the winner at an event at Hull Minster, shown live on the BBC.

The work of the four shorlisted artists - Hurvin Anderson, Andrea Buttner, Lubaina Himid and Rosalind Nashashibi - has been on display at the Ferens Art Gallery, since September and has so far attracted over 45,000 visitors.

Previously restricted to artists under the age of 50, this year the upper age limit has been lifted.

Goldie said: “The Turner Prize is one of most important art prizes, whether outrageous, curious or challenging, it’s always relevant, as demonstrated by these works by all the artists on the shortlist and I cannot wait to find out who the winner is.

“Hull is having a storming year as UK City of Culture and I’m really looking forward to getting to see more of it myself.”

The Turner Prize award is £40,000 with £25,000 going to the winner and £5,000 each for the other shortlisted artists.

The work will be on display until January 7, 2018.
