Diversity manager named ‘straight ally’ by Stonewall

An employee from a legal business has been named ‘Straight Ally of the Year’ by Stonewall, the LGBT charity.

Gail Taylor, diversity and community engagement manager at DWF, won the award at the Stonewall Yorkshire and the Humber WEI 2015 ceremony in Leeds.

Ms Taylor supported DWF’s OutFront LGBT networking group that has grown substantially in the last two years from five to over 50 members. She also played a role in implementing LGBT Confidential, a private helpline that offers DWF employees support and confidence to come out at work.

Ms Taylor said: “Negative experiences can still be commonplace in the workplace for those who identify as LGBT.

“I’m absolutely delighted and extremely proud to be recognised as a Straight Ally by Stonewall and I’m looking forward to working with my colleagues to expand on the work we have done so far.”

DWF climbed 97 places in the Stonewall Workplace Equality Index this year and the firm features in the Stonewall’s top ten employers in Yorkshire.
