Heavyweight line-up for Yorkshire housing market forecast

TWO hEAVYWEIGHTS from the worlds of mortgage lending and housebuilding will deliver their forecast for next year’s housing market at The Yorkshire Post Business Club.

Peter Hill, chief executive of Leeds Building Society, and Irving Weaver, chairman of Strata, are keynote speakers at next month’s event.

Mr Hill will speak about the state of the national and regional housing market and prospects for next year, including his predictions for a percentage rise or fall for house prices in Yorkshire.

Mr Weaver will discuss the state of the housing market from his perspective, the likely demand next year, industry challenges and his forecast for 2015.

Mr Hill has been chief executive of Leeds Building Society since 2011. The mutual reported record profits, mortgage lending and market share in the first half of 2014. Mr Hill is also chairman of the Northern Association of Building Societies.

Strata, based in Doncaster, is one of Yorkshire’s most successful family-owned firms. The company reacted quickly to early signs of recovery in the housing market.

Strata increased annual sales by 217 per cent to £80.1m in 2013 and lifted pre-tax profits to £9.01m from £1.1m.
