Forty five projects of all sizes and budgets are in with a chance of gaining recognition at the 2017 RICS Awards, Yorkshire and Humber.
There are eight categories in total: Building Conservation, Commercial Property, Community Benefit, Design through Innovation, Regeneration, Residential, Tourism & Leisure and Infrastructure and those shortlisted for category awards are automatically considered for the Project of the Year title.
Among the shortlisted schemes are: conservation of the Victoria Quarter in Leeds, East Riding Leisure in Bridlington, Bransholme Storm Water Pumping Station in Hull, Victoria Gate in Leeds, York Theatre Royal, Fox Valley in Sheffield, Clementhorpe Maltings in York and RNLI Scarborough.
Last year, the accolade – which is presented to the scheme which demonstrates overall outstanding best practice and an exemplary commitment to adding value to its local area - was awarded to Blackburn Meadows Biomass in Sheffield for its use of cutting edge technology to power and heat the local community, which has significantly reduced the region’s carbon emissions.
All category winners will go on to compete against other regional winners at the national final in October 2017, for the chance to be crowned the overall UK winner in their respective category.
Rob Hindle, director at White Hindle & Partners and chairman of the judging panel, said: “These awards showcase our region’s top built environment projects, along with the exceptional talent and skills of the teams and surveyors behind them. “Every year I wonder how we’re going to top last year’s shortlist, but I’m never disappointed; many of this year’s nominees are truly unique and pioneering, and have transformed local communities. It just goes to show, our region is home to some of the most inspiring built projects.”
He added: “As part of the next phase of judging, the panel and I are looking forward to finding out more about the positive impact each of these shortlisted schemes is having on their local areas.”
The awards take place on May 12 in Leeds.
