Leeds-based Planet-U Energy aims to hire 150 staff by Christmas

Planet-U Energy plans to open a second office in Leeds in response to soaring demand.

The company was established in 2018 by entrepreneur Grant Nicholson and has already sold £720m of energy contracts.

Its staff numbers have increased from one to 50 in under two years.

A spokesman said: "As one of only a handful of businesses actively seeking new recruits during these troubled times, Planet-U have attracted applicants willing to relocate to Yorkshire from all over the UK.

"Recent recruits include a broker from Liverpool and PA from Cornwall."

The company is recruiting energy brokers, account managers, sales executives and business development managers.

The spokesman added: "Working in partnership with Leeds City Council, the firm plans to take on at least 10 new recruits per month from June, although they have had to adjust their application process to meet with the social distancing guidelines of the coronavirus lockdown.

"With no possibility of gathering up the dozens of prospective candidates in one place for recruitment assessment centres, the Planet-U Energy recruitment team engage the hundreds of

applicants in telephone interviews, followed by 90-second video testimonials and self-assessment tests, before a selected group undergo final interviews with the CEO."

Vicky Limerick, Head of HR and Recruitment, said: “The entire recruitment process has been very different to our usual approach, but so far everyone has adapted incredibly well, and

we have certainly seen some talented new recruits join the Planet-U team”
