If you are thinking of putting on your walking shoes this autumn, it’s worth paying a visit to the quaint market town of Hawes, which sits at the head of Wensleydale in the Yorkshire Dales. Located in the upper valley of the River Ure, Wensleydale is famous for its cheese and its main commercial production operates at Hawes. As well as the chance to sample some delicious cheeses, the area also boasts a wealth of wonderful walks around the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Here are just a few in and around the area that you can try.
5. Great Shunner Fell
Great Shunner Fell is the third highest mountain in the Dales, and the highest in Wensleydale. Popular among hikers, a circular 11.9 mile trek from Hawes follows a well marked route up to the summit and takes in stunning views. Photo: Shutterstock
6. Wether Fell and Semerwater
Starting at Hawes, an 11 mile circular walk will take you to the summit of Wether Fell, which overlooks Bainbridge and Raydale in the Dales, as well as the glistening shores of Lake Semerwater. Photo: Shutterstock
7. Bainbridge to Hawes
