Brothers from TV soaps join forces to kick in for wounded servicemen and women

SOAP star brothers Adam and Ryan Thomas might play characters in different television shows, but this weekend they were on the same side.

The brothers who appear in Coronation Street and Emmerdale were in Leeds yesterday to take part in a charity football match yesterday that was a real family affair.

The fixture pitted a team from the Armed Forces against a showbiz XI that included the soap star brothers.

Ryan plays the character of Jason Grimshaw in ITV’s Coronation Street while Adam plays the role of Adam Barton in Emmerdale.

The charity football match took place yesterday at Garforth Town FC, in Leeds.

Other Coronation Street actors were also on the team sheet including Jack P Shepherd, who plays David Platt, Alan Halsall, who plays Tyrone Dobbs and Sam Aston, who plays Chesney Brown, as was Royle Family actor Ralf Little.

The event was organised by a group of students from Leeds Metropolitan University who aimed to raise £2,000 for the Help for Heroes military charity.

The charity, Help for Heroes, was founded by Bryn and Emma Parry in October 2007 to help the wounded servicemen and women returning from Afghanistan and Iraq.
