Police seize 100 weapons in 24 hours as part of knife crackdown
Police seized more than 100 weapons and made 10 arrests in just 24 hours as part of a crackdown on knife crime along the Yorkshire coast.
North Yorkshire Police targeted knives and organised crime during the one-day ‘Operation Tornado’ across Scarborough, Whitby and Filey.
The operation saw 10 people arrested, with officers also seizing 101 suspected knives/weapons and four warrants executed.
Police said they also seized class-A drugs and targeted wanted suspects and prolific offenders during the 24-hour initiative on October 14th and 15th.
In Malton, they searched a property and recovered eight grams of suspected Class-A drugs, £2,500 in cash, weighing scales, deal bags and a mobile phone.

Deputy Chief Constable Scott Bisset, from North Yorkshire Police, said: "Knife crime ruins lives. While thankfully incidents remain relatively low in North Yorkshire, we know that carrying a knife can have devastating consequences, which is why we are relentless in pursuing those who choose to carry weapons and commit crime.
"We also know that knives are often transported through our road and rail networks, sometimes moving between communities and into the hands of those intent on causing harm. That is why operations like Tornado are so important.
“By targeting key transport routes, working with partners and taking proactive action against offenders, we can disrupt criminality, remove weapons from our streets and help keep our communities safe.”
