Thornton-le-Dale: Police granted extra time to question Leeds man, 33, on suspicion of murdering woman found in North Yorkshire village

Police have been granted extra time to question the suspect in the murder of a woman in the Ryedale village of Thornton-le-Dale.

The woman's name has not yet been released and she was found inside a property called The Grove on High Street on January 5.

A man was arrested shortly afterwards and remains in custody.

North Yorkshire Police have now confirmed that he is 33 and from the Leeds area.

The force's latest update read: "Continued policing activity will take place at the address in the coming days and the public can expect to see an increased policing presence in the local area.

"We can confirm that the man arrested on suspicion of murder is 33 years old and from the Leeds area.

"North Yorkshire Police have been granted authority for the continued detention of the man arrested to allow for further enquiries to be undertaken.

"Further updates will be provided when possible and we continue to ask anyone with information which could assist the investigation to make contact by calling 101 and quoting ref: 12220002314."
