Female zookeeper dies after being mauled by tiger

A woman has died after being mauled by a tiger she was caring for.

Police in Cambridgeshire have now confirmed that the zookeeper was killed by the animal during an incident at Hamerton Zoo, a wildlife park near Huntingdon, on Monday morning.

She was inside the tiger's enclosure at the time and the animal did not escape into the park.

Visitors were evacuated and the attraction closed and there as a huge emergency services response to the incident.

The death was described as a 'freak accident' and nobody else was hurt.

Witnesses have spoken of seeing other zoo staff trying to distract the tiger with meat while they tried to save their colleague.
