Fines alert for sunbed businesses
The Sunbeds (Regulation) Act 2010 came into force on April 8 and requires salons to ensure that no person under the age of 18 can use a sunbed on their premises.
Local authorities are responsible for enforcing the changes and Doncaster Council’s regulatory services spokesman Coun Cyntha Ransome said the authority took that seriously.

“We will be working with businesses across the borough to help ensure that they comply with the new Act.”
Dr Rupert Suckling, Doncaster’s deputy public health, director said: “Ultraviolet rays from sunbeds cause skin cancer in 500 Doncaster people every year.
“Though most cases are curable, about 12 Doncaster residents die from the more serious skin cancers each year. Some sunbed rays can be 10-15 times higher than that of the midday sun”.
