Former footballer declared bankrupt

Former Northern Ireland football international Keith Gillespie has been declared bankrupt.

The former Manchester United and Newcastle United midfielder, 35, was listed in an official receiver bankruptcy notice published yesterday.

Gillespie also played for Sheffield United and Bradford City, but last season appeared with Glentoran in the Irish Premiership. He is one of Northern Ireland's most capped players with 86 appearances since his 1994 debut.

A Revenue and Customs spokesman confirmed action had been against Gillespie, who has an address in Northern Ireland, over a tax bill, but refused to say how much was owed.

Gillespie was also a member of Manchester United's 1992 FA Youth Cup winning team.
