Organ donation; let loved ones know your wishes – The Yorkshire Post says
THE newly-launched Leave Them Certain campaign to promote organ donation – the gift of life – has particular resonance with two Yorkshire families now at the forefront of the initiative.
Because Karen Piotr knew about her husband Mark’s wishes when he died from a spontaneous, catastrophic brain bleed, it became possible to save the lives of eight people.
Equally Kevin Undercliffe owes his life to the humanity of the mystery person whose death two years ago enabled him to receive a new heart in a lifesaving transplant.
Now, after receiving an unexpected second chance, he’s endorsing the new NHS Blood and Transplant promotion that encourages people to talk about the final wishes with loved ones. For, only if they are certain of an individual’s intentions, will it be possible and practical for seriously ill people like Kevin to benefit from the altruism of people like Karen and her late husband at a time of personal tragedy.
