Those are the words of an NHS doctor to me moments ago. I have literally just had a conversation with someone - Sunday morning - who is scared for her own life. Friends of hers living in Italy have watched friends of their own - healthcare professionals - die, and have sent texts to her to share the bad news.

During our conversation, she said she felt a kick in her stomach when she watched the news. The person on the screen was gleefully gloating: ‘If I want to go out, I’ll go out. I can do what I like.”

How dare he? She pleads.

So here we have someone fearing for her life. She knows that she, or someone she works with, is going to die from exposure to Covid-19. She is prepared for having to make the ultimate sacrifice, whilst others are not prepared to make even the slightest of sacrifices.

Britain, this selfish I’m alright Jack attitude is - right now - as deadly as the virus itself.

Stop it.

To those of you helping to keep this doctor - and others - safe: thank you.
