The Glorious Twelfth: What is glorious about seeing a dead or injured bird dropping to the ground? - Yorkshire Post Letters

From: Keith Davey, Bingley.

‘The Glorious Twelfth’. If ever there was a misnomer, that must be the ultimate. How on earth can the killing of birds in the name of sport be glorious? I can think of several more appropriate adjectives.

The Countryside Alliance concocts numerous reasons for the existence of their so-called ‘sport’. Surely the only reason they exist is because they enjoy killing and injuring birds, animals and fish.

If their ‘sport’ was made illegal how long would their activities survive? If Adrian Blackmore (The YP, August 15) really expects people to believe his organisation’s raison d’etre is what he claims, he is very wrong.

Will he please answer the simple question: do he and his fellow ‘sportsmen’ enjoy this barbaric activity? If so, is their pleasure increased by a greater number of birds shot? What is glorious about seeing a dead or injured bird dropping to the ground?
