The standards of television shows have plummeted over the years - Yorkshire Post Letters
From: David Quarrie, Lynden Way, Holgate, York.
I watch less and less television as each year passes. The standards and quality of TV has dropped so much over the years. Far too many films are American, there are too many quiz shows and almost all the drama and police programmes warn you about foul language, violence and scenes that might upset the viewer.
The comedies are not funny nor amusing, mostly having American type humour. The sports programmes are spoiled by having so many ‘expert’ analysts and commentators. Some sports get biased coverage whilst others rarely get a showing or mention.
Talent, skill, dedication, and variety are almost non-existent, especially in programmes like Strictly Come Dancing. Most of the News programmes are biased and or untrust worthy.

On the whole most of the nature programmes are good, and the investigation ones like with Simon Reeve, Michael Palin and Ben Fogle are very good and most interesting.
The majority of presenters are over the top with praise and the use of words like ‘brilliant’, ‘amazing’, ‘incredible’, ‘super’ and the audiences are overjoyed and ‘wild with excitement’ when in fact there is none!
Who do today's programme selection managers think they are providing entertainment for? Certainly not me or many of my generation, born in the 1940s. I would rather read a good book or listen to music.
