The Yorkshire Post says: Facelift for Leeds station is long overdue

In a week where it was revealed almost half of the trains serving Leeds have been late this year, it is fair to say long-suffering passengers who use the city's railway station tend to have plenty of time on their hands.

But commuters and visitors whiling away time on the station’s increasingly-busy concourses and platforms may take some amount of comfort from the news that their all-too-familiar surroundings will soon become a bit less gloomy.

A new roof is to be built at the station to brighten it up in time for the arrival of the World Cycling Championships next September.

The new transparent roof will replace the dark and tired wooden one that currently sits above the main southern concourse.

Giving what is one of the country’s busiest stations and the gateway to Yorkshire for tens of thousands of visitors a much-needed facelift is, just like many of the region’s trains, long overdue.
