Play breaks eating disorders 'taboo'

A YOUNG woman's battle with anorexia is the subject of a new play being premiered at the Humber Mouth literature festival.

Thinspiration aims to break the taboo about eating disorders

and "encourage understanding".

The play is something of a departure for writer Dave Windass, who also wrote the play Sully, about the rugby league star Clive Sullivan, and has written several comedies in the past.

"I'm not afraid of being serious," he said. "Eating disorders remain something of a taboo subject because it is very difficult, when you're in the midst of a battle, to articulate your thoughts and feelings to the people around you.

Thinspiration, starring National Student Drama Festival winner Rachel Helen Shaw, will be performed in the Studio at Hull Truck Theatre on Saturday, July 10, at 8pm.
