The Community Foundation for Calderdale group is working with local shops which will sell products marked with a “Watermark” logo.

A share of the profits made from the sale of the marked products will go into a fund to help the area recover from future flood events.

The foundation has already helped raise more than £1.5m in the wake of the floods which hit the Calder Valley on Boxing Day.

Foundation chief executive Steve Duncan said: “We are not going to allow the worst flood in living memory to dampen our resolve and we are proud to launch Watermark so local residents and visitors can enjoy the best that we can offer and in so doing help to create a Flood Fund – just in case it happens again.”

The Government is matching every pound raised.

Communities Secretary Greg Clark said: “I’ve seen for myself the incredible support projects like Watermark are offering, and I’m proud that as a Government we’re match-funding charities as part of the £250million we’ve put towards helping residents and businesses in flood affected areas.”
