Trust praises work of retiring hospital chief

MEDICAL director Dr Robin Bolton will retire from his role at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust at the end of this month.

Dr Bolton joined the trust as a consultant physician with a special interest in gastroenterology in 1988 and was clinical director for medicine until 2007, when he became deputy medical director.

He then took on the top job at the hospital trust in April 2010.

In his retirement, he will move to Hertfordshire with his wife of 40 years, Rosemary, to be nearer to their children and grandchildren.

Dr Bolton said yesterday: “Medicine has been the focus of life for both Rosemary and me for over 40 years.

“After such a personally rewarding and fulfilling career, it’s now time to give something back, after all the unstinting support I’ve been given, and I’m looking forward to being free of the pressures and demands of the NHS and just take time to ‘be’.”

Ron Calvert, chief executive of the hospitals trust, added: “Since I have known Robin, I have valued his professional opinion and expert knowledge in all aspects of clinical care and clinical governance.

“The medical dimension that he has brought to board discussions has been invaluable.”

Consultant vascular surgeon Sewa Singh was appointed new medical director in January and will take up his new post on Sunday, April 1.
