Woman arrested on drink drive claim after Leeds BMW crash leaves man critical

A 29-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving after a crash that left a man critically injured.

The BMW X5 careered off Wetherby Road in Scarcroft, Leeds, and hit a tree before going down an embankment into a field shortly before 3am today.

Police were called to the scene, between Carr Lane and Ling Lane, along with paramedics and firefighters.

The occupants of the car – two men and three women – were rescued and taken to Leeds General Infirmary.

A 28-year-old man, from Leeds, is in a critical condition. A 23-year-old man was seriously injured but is in a stable condition. Two women, aged 31 and 36, suffered minor injuries.

The 29-year-old woman remains in custody.

The road, which had been closed, reopened at about 8.30am.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident, which happened as the car travelled towards Wetherby.
